I didn’t start exercising until I was 32, and I only started because I was overweight and had high cholesterol. Fast forward nine years and I’m in better shape than I was in my 20’s.

I’ve trained in lots of different ways and with different goals along the way. From simple things like running my first 5k, and getting my first pullup, to more advanced things like one arm pushups, pistol squats, and my favorite: the 550 pound deadlift—every goal came with obstacles, setbacks, a steep learning curve, and a lot of boring, sometimes frustrating work.

The one consistent thing I relearn everytime I pick a new goal is: anytime you set out to improve at anything, be it fitness or anything else, the reward is not in achieving the goal, but in the valuable things you learn on your way there.
