There are days when the work gets monotonous and it makes me wonder what’s the point.

In my professional life I’ve worked for months–years–on projects for buildings that would never have an occupant. I’ve written complex programming for control systems that were overridden as soon as they were turned on.

In my personal life, I’ve made art I never shared, written songs I’ve never sung, and labored over words that were never read.

For what?

Well… most likely… for me.

For learning. For growth. For patience, persistence, and perseverance.

Because nothing happens in a vacuum. Because nothing happens without a reason. Because not even the most useless of moments is devoid of purpose.

So I’ll try to remember to fill every barrel to the brim, even when I’m not sure why I’m carrying it.
